With deep regret, Benetton Rugby is forced to communicate that the player Ornel Gega, following the injury that occurred in August 2017 and due to the onset of post-operative medical complications, is forced to retire permanently from competitive activity. All the rehabilitative efforts documented by the medical equipe were not enough to make him continue his commitment with the team. Following all this, it wasn’t sufficient for the player to continue his career.

President Zatta, the entire staff and all Ornel’s teammates want to thank Ornel deeply for his astonishing participations in the “Benetton Rugby Team” and the “Italian National Team” wishing Ornel all the best for his future challenges in work and private life

Gega's words: "I would like to thank the Benetton family, the President Zatta and the Sports Director Pavanello for welcoming me into their family and above all, in supporting me in every way after my serious injury. Thank the Benetton family, the President Zatta and the Sports Director Pavanello for welcoming me into their family but also and above all for supporting me in all possible ways after the injury. I would also like to thank the staff and all my teammates for all what they have given to me in these two long years of suffering. Leaving my team and especially my teammates has been a dreadful sufferance for me. I tried my best in returning to play but all my pain and surgical procedures that I underwent will not permit me to play anymore.I will miss Rugby so much and it’s a definitely part of my life.I can only say that I am so grateful to have had this wonderful and unforgettable experience with you all over the last years of plying.
